I Am Guided (Proverbs 3:5–6)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

What It Means to Be Guided
Being guided means God is actively directing your steps, not just watching from a distance. It means you do not have to figure everything out alone because the One who knows the end of your story is leading you through it.
Guidance is not just for major life decisions. It is for the ordinary daily choices that add up to the direction of your life. God’s guidance comes through His Word, prayer, wise counsel, and the Holy Spirit’s inner direction. A guided person learns to trust God’s knowledge over their own instincts, especially when the two are in conflict.
Hebrew Meaning
batach (בָּטַח): to trust, rely on, or feel secure in; used in Proverbs 3:5 to describe the kind of wholehearted trust that releases control to God. It carries the idea of leaning your full weight on someone dependable.
yashar (יָשַׁר): to be straight, right, or direct; used in Proverbs 3:6 to describe God making paths straight. It points to God clearing and directing the way forward.
Greek Meaning
hodēgeō (ὁδηγέω): to guide, lead, or show the way; used of the Spirit guiding believers into all truth. It pictures God as a guide who goes ahead and shows the path.
kateuthynō (κατευθύνω): to guide, direct, or make straight; used when Paul prays for God to direct his path. It carries the idea of God straightening what would otherwise be crooked or uncertain.

How to Practice Being Guided
Submit Before You Strategize. The path to God’s guidance runs through surrender. Bring your plans to Him before you finalize them, not after.
Lean Into Scripture as Your Primary Direction. God’s Word is the clearest form of His guidance. What He says in Scripture does not contradict what His Spirit will say to you.
Slow Down Enough to Hear. Guidance is hard to receive when you are always moving too fast. Build quiet into your life so you can actually hear what God is saying.
Get Wise Counsel. God often guides through people who know His Word and know your situation. Do not refuse human wisdom in the name of waiting for miraculous direction.
Obey the Last Thing He Told You. If you are waiting for new direction but ignoring what God already showed you, start there. Obedience opens the next step.
Declare It
I trust God with every decision, and as I submit my ways to Him, He makes my path straight.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for promising to guide my steps when I trust You with my whole heart. Help me release my own understanding and lean fully on Yours. Teach me to submit my plans before I pursue them and to listen before I move. Make my path straight and direct my steps according to Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
