I Am Anointed (1 John 2:27)
“As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit, just as it has taught you, remain in him.”

What It Means to Be Anointed
In the ancient world, anointing was a sacred act. Kings were anointed at their coronation. Priests were anointed for ministry. Prophets were anointed for their calling. Anointing always signified that a person had been set apart by God, equipped with His Spirit, and given authority for a specific task. John’s declaration to every believer is extraordinary: you have received that anointing. It remains in you.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is not a spiritual experience reserved for extraordinary Christians. It is the birthright of everyone who is in Christ. You have been set apart, equipped, and sent. The same Spirit who anointed Jesus at His baptism and empowered Him for His ministry is the Spirit who lives in you. A person who understands this stops waiting for a special experience and starts living from what they have already been given.
Hebrew Meaning
mashach (מָשַׁח): to anoint, to smear with oil, to consecrate; used for the anointing of kings, priests, and sacred objects throughout the Old Testament. The word Messiah comes from this root, meaning “the Anointed One.” Anointing in Hebrew thought was not symbolic only. It was the act of setting someone apart for divine purpose and releasing God’s Spirit and authority upon them.
Greek Meaning
chrisma (χρῖσμα): anointing, the act of anointing; used in 1 John 2:27 to describe what every believer has received from God. It is closely related to the word Christos, which means “the Anointed One.” To receive the chrisma is to receive the same consecrating work of the Spirit that identified and equipped Jesus. The believer’s anointing is an extension of Christ’s own anointing shared with His body.

Isaiah 61:1 (NIV): “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed (mashach) me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives.”

How to Practice Being Anointed
Yield Daily to the Holy Spirit. The anointing you carry is not self-activated. It flows from surrender. Begin each day by yielding your plans, words, and actions to the Holy Spirit and asking Him to move through you.
Step Into What You Have Been Anointed For. Anointing is not passive. It is equipping for action. Identify the calling and assignment God has placed on your life and move toward it with the confidence that the Spirit goes with you.
Do Not Ignore the Inner Witness. The anointing teaches you from the inside. When the Spirit is drawing your attention to something, warning you, or confirming a direction, pay attention. That inner witness is part of how the anointing works.
Stay Humble Under the Anointing. History is full of examples of people who let God’s anointing on their life produce pride rather than gratitude. Remember that the anointing is not about you. It is about what God chooses to do through you.
Pray for Greater Sensitivity. Ask God to increase your awareness of the Spirit’s movement in and through you. Greater sensitivity leads to greater effectiveness in what you have been anointed to do.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit rests on my life and teaches, equips, and empowers me from within.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the anointing of Your Spirit that You have placed on my life. Help me to walk in it with humility, sensitivity, and boldness. Teach me through Your Spirit what I need to know, and lead me into the assignments You have prepared for me. Let the anointing You have given me bring freedom, healing, and truth to everyone I encounter. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
