I Am Clothed in Strength (Proverbs 31:25)

What It Means to Be Clothed in Strength
Clothing in Scripture is never incidental. What you wear speaks to who you are, what you carry, and how you move through the world. The woman described in Proverbs 31 is not clothed in anxiety about the future. She is clothed in strength and dignity, garments God Himself provides, and because of what she wears, she can face what is coming with something rare: a laugh. Not denial, but confident peace.
To be clothed in strength means your ability to face life does not come from your circumstances being favorable or your plan being airtight. It comes from what God has placed on you. Strength and dignity are not things you manufacture through discipline alone. They are the result of a life lived in relationship with God, where His character begins to cover you and shape how you carry yourself. A person clothed in strength does not dread tomorrow because they know who goes before them into it.
Hebrew Meaning
oz (עֹז): strength, might, power; used throughout the Old Testament to describe both God’s own strength and the strength He imparts to His people. In Psalm 84:5, those whose strength is in God are called blessed. The strength in Proverbs 31:25 is not physical or situational. It is the kind of strength that comes from being rooted in something unshakeable. Oz is the kind of strength that makes a person steady when everything around them is moving.
Greek Meaning
dynamis (δύναμις): power, strength, ability; used throughout the New Testament to describe the power of God working in and through believers. In Ephesians 6:10, Paul calls believers to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power (dynamis). The strength you are clothed in is not your own. It is derived from and dependent on the One who has unlimited power and has chosen to make that power available to you.

How to Practice Being Clothed in Strength
Put on Strength Intentionally Each Morning. Colossians 3 uses the language of putting on what God has given you. Begin each day by deliberately acknowledging the strength and dignity God has clothed you in. What you rehearse in the morning shapes how you carry yourself through the day.
Stop Waiting for Fear to Disappear Before You Act. The woman in Proverbs 31 laughs at the future not because she has no fears but because her clothing is stronger than her fear. Move forward in the strength God has given you even when you do not feel fully ready.
Carry Yourself With Dignity in Difficult Rooms. Strength and dignity together mean you do not shrink under pressure or compromise your character under stress. Practice entering hard conversations and challenging situations as someone who knows who clothed them.
Draw on God’s Strength When Yours Runs Out. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says His strength is made perfect in weakness. When you reach the limit of your own capacity, that is not the end. That is the point where God’s strength takes over. Let exhaustion become an invitation to depend.
Speak to Your Future With Confidence, Not Dread. The laughter at days to come is a posture of confidence about the future. Choose to speak about what is ahead in a way that reflects trust in God rather than fear of what might go wrong.

I face the future with strength and dignity because God is the one who clothes me.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for clothing me with strength and dignity that does not come from my own effort. Help me to wear what You have given me every day. Where fear has been dictating how I approach the future, replace it with the confident peace that comes from trusting You. Let me carry myself in a way that reflects who You are and what You have placed on my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
