The Power of Intercession to Shield Those Under Attack

Luke 22:31-32

“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.”

Targeted intercessory prayer has the power to sustain faith and shield those under attack, even when Satan has specifically requested to sift them. Your prayer for others is a direct counter to the enemy’s assignments against them.

The Enemy’s Strategy

The enemy specifically targets people who carry influence, faith, and spiritual weight. He does not attack randomly. He identifies who would cause the most damage to his plans if they stayed standing and goes after them directly. Believers who do not pray for each other leave those targeted people without a layer of protection that intercession was designed to provide.

The Biblical Example

Jesus told Peter directly that Satan had asked permission to sift him. That was not metaphor. It was a real spiritual request against a specific person. But Jesus did not just warn Peter. He responded by interceding. He said, “I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail.” Peter still went through the trial. He still denied Jesus three times. But his faith did not permanently fail, and Jesus had already said that was the prayer He made. The intercession did not remove the difficulty. It secured what mattered most through it.

How to Use It

Pray for people by name, specifically targeting the areas where the enemy is working against them. Ask God what to pray and then stay persistent. Your prayers for others are not symbolic gestures. They are real spiritual forces that shield and sustain people in ways that may not be visible until later.

“I pray for those around me and my prayers shield them. The enemy cannot sift the people I am covering in prayer without encountering what I have already spoken on their behalf. I cover them with prayer and I push back against every assignment Satan has brought against them. The intercessory prayers I send before the throne of God are real weapons against real attacks and they work.”
