Stacked smooth stones - I Am at Peace

I Am at Peace (John 14:27)

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”

John 14:27 (NIV)

What It Means to Be at Peace

Being at peace means your heart can be steady because God is present, faithful, and in control. It means calm is possible even when life around you is uncertain.

Peace does not mean every problem has been solved or every question has been answered. It means God’s presence becomes stronger than the pressure trying to rule your mind. A peaceful person learns to bring anxiety, conflict, and confusion under the care of God.

Hebrew Meaning

shalom (שָׁלוֹם): peace, wholeness, completeness, welfare, and well-being; used to describe more than the absence of conflict. It carries the idea of life being held together by God’s order, care, and restoration.

Greek Meaning

eirēnē (εἰρήνη): peace, harmony, rest, or well-being; used to describe peace with God, peace from God, and peace among people. It is not shallow calm, but settled wholeness rooted in God’s presence.

Bible Verses on Peace

Numbers 6:26 (NIV): “The LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace (shalom).”

Psalm 29:11 (NIV): “The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace (shalom).”

Isaiah 26:3 (NIV): “You will keep in perfect peace (shalom) those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

John 14:27 (NIV): “Peace (eirēnē) I leave with you; my peace (eirēnē) I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”

Philippians 4:7 (NIV): “And the peace (eirēnē) of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Colossians 3:15 (NIV): “Let the peace (eirēnē) of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.”

How to Practice Peace

Bring Anxiety Into God’s Presence. Peace grows when you stop carrying worry alone. Tell God what is weighing on you instead of rehearsing it silently.

Separate What You Can Control From What You Cannot. Do what wisdom requires, then release what only God can handle. Peace often begins where control ends.

Guard What Shapes Your Mind. Constant noise, comparison, and fear can disturb your peace. Be intentional about what you allow to feed your thoughts.

Let Peace Guide Your Responses. You do not have to answer every situation with urgency or emotion. Pause long enough to let God steady you.

Pursue Peace Without Avoiding Truth. Peace is not pretending everything is fine. It is handling reality with honesty, grace, and trust in God.

Declare It

I bring my worry to God and choose to rest in the peace that only He can give.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me peace that the world cannot give. Help me bring my anxiety, conflict, and uncertainty into Your presence. Teach me to release what I cannot control and respond from a steady heart. Let Your peace guard my mind, rule my choices, and shape the way I treat others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Question

What situation has been stealing my peace, and what does my reaction reveal about where I may be trusting control more than God?
