The Power of God as Your Fortress

Psalm 91:2-3

“I will say to the LORD, My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.”

Authority

God is your fortress and your refuge, and from inside that fortress He delivers you from every trap and every deadly thing the enemy sets in your path. A fortress is not just protection from attacks. It is a position of total security from which you live. When God is your fortress, the enemy cannot set a trap that reaches inside it.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan is the Fowler who sets snares and traps designed to catch you off guard. His traps are hidden, carefully constructed, and placed in the paths you are most likely to walk. He sets them through relationships, opportunities, temptations, and circumstances that look appealing but are designed to bring you down.

The Biblical Example

Psalm 91 opens with the declaration that the person who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. The psalmist calls God his refuge and his fortress. This was not abstract poetry. It was the confession of someone who had learned that staying close to God was what made every other promise in the psalm operational. God as a fortress meant there was a place of protection that the enemy could not breach as long as the person remained inside it.

How to Use It

Make a daily declaration that God is your fortress and your refuge. Before walking into any situation that feels risky or uncertain, acknowledge God as your covering and ask Him to reveal and destroy any snare the enemy has set in your path. Trust that your dwelling in Him is your protection from traps you cannot even see.

Declaration

“The LORD is my refuge and my fortress. I trust in Him and He delivers me from every snare the enemy has set. I am not walking into the traps of the fowler because I live in the fortress of God. Every hidden trap, every constructed snare, and every deadly thing the enemy has placed in my path is destroyed by the covering of my God. I am safe inside my fortress and the enemy cannot reach me here.”
