The Power to Pray for the Sick and See Healing

James 5:14-15

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”

Authority

God authorized prayer for the sick as a direct spiritual response to physical illness. The prayer offered in faith carries real authority over sickness, and the promise attached to it is that the Lord raises up the one who is sick. Healing is not outside what God does. It is something He does in response to believing prayer.

The Enemy’s Strategy

The enemy uses sickness as an attack and then works to convince the sick person that prayer will not make a difference. He points to every case where healing did not visibly happen as evidence that God does not respond this way anymore. When a believer stops praying for the sick because of doubt or disappointment, the enemy has successfully shut down one of the most direct expressions of kingdom authority over his work.

The Biblical Example

James gives a structured instruction: if someone is sick, they should call for prayer. The elders pray over them, anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer offered in faith makes the sick person well. This was not presented as a rare event but as a standard response to sickness in the community of believers. The Lord does the raising up. The believer does the praying. The roles are clear and the outcome is assigned to God’s faithfulness in response to faith-filled prayer.

How to Use It

Pray for the sick with expectation, not as a formality. When you pray, direct the prayer toward the specific condition and declare healing in the name of Jesus. Do not let past disappointments determine whether you pray. Let the authority God assigned to believing prayer determine how you pray. Keep praying and keep expecting God to move.

The enemy’s assignment against my body and against the bodies of those I love has been confronted by prayer and the name of Jesus.
