I Am Favored (Luke 1:30)

What It Means to Be Favored

Being favored means God has extended His grace, goodwill, and special attention toward you. It means His hand is on your life in a way that is not based on your resume, your reputation, or your record.

Favor is not about being better than others or living without difficulty. It means God chooses to bless, position, open doors for, and show up for people who have done nothing to deserve it. Mary was not chosen because she was the most qualified. She was favored by grace. And when God’s favor is on your life, things can happen that your own ability could never arrange.

Hebrew Meaning

chen (חֵן): grace, favor, or charm; used to describe finding favorable reception in someone’s eyes. It carries the idea of being looked upon with goodwill and kindness, often unexpectedly or undeservedly.

chanan (חָנַן): to be gracious, show favor, or be merciful; used to describe God actively extending kindness and benefit to someone. It reminds us that favor flows from God’s generous character, not from human achievement.

Greek Meaning

charis (χάρις): grace, favor, or goodwill; used to describe God’s generous, undeserved blessing. It is the same word used for saving grace and points to a disposition of divine kindness toward the one receiving it.

charitoō (χαριτόω): to highly favor, grace, or bless abundantly; used in Luke 1:28 when the angel calls Mary “highly favored.” It describes someone on whom God has poured out His grace in a distinct and special way.

How to Practice Being Favored

Stop Waiting Until You Deserve It. Favor is not the reward at the end of your improvement journey. It is God’s grace moving in your life right now, even in your unfinished state.

Expect God to Open Doors You Did Not Build. Favor means God can arrange what you cannot force. Stay faithful, stay available, and watch for what only He can do.

Do Not Compare Your Favor to Someone Else’s. Favor looks different for different people. What God does in your life is personal, purposeful, and not in competition with what He does in another.

Carry Favor With Humility. Being favored by God is not a reason for pride. It is a reason for gratitude and responsibility. Let what God gives you be used for more than yourself.

Trust Favor in Hard Seasons. Joseph was favored by God and still went to prison. Favor does not mean a problem-free life; it means God is with you in every chapter of the story.

Declare It

God’s favor over my life is not based on my performance but on His grace, and I walk in that favor today.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for extending Your favor to me through grace. Help me stop waiting to deserve it and teach me to live with expectancy that You are moving on my behalf. Give me humility with the favor You give and wisdom to use it for Your purpose. Let my life reflect the grace of someone who has been touched by Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
