The Power to Overcome Evil With Good

You have been given the power to actively overcome evil through good. Doing good is not passive. It is a form of spiritual warfare that defeats the works of darkness in practical, real ways. The enemy is overcome not just by resisting him but by advancing with specific acts of good against everything he has deployed.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan wants to overcome you with evil. He uses offenses, injustices, and provocations to pull you into responding with evil for evil. When you retaliate in kind, you step out of the power of good and into the cycle of evil that he has engineered. He needs your participation in evil to advance his agenda.

The Biblical Example

Paul wrote Romans 12:21 as a closing instruction in a section dealing with how believers should respond to hostility and evil. His direction was not to be overcome by evil but to overcome evil with good. He was speaking to people living under Roman rule in a culture that could turn hostile toward them at any moment. His instruction flipped the dynamic: good was not the passive option. It was the winning strategy. Evil does not win against persistent good; it is overcome by it.

How to Use It

When the enemy uses a person or a situation to provoke you toward evil responses, choose the specific good action that is the direct opposite. The more targeted the provocation, the more targeted the good response should be. This is active spiritual warfare, not passive compliance. Every act of deliberate good in the face of evil is a defeat for the enemy.
