The Power of Confident Faith as Your Shield

Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Your faith is a shield built on confident assurance in what God has promised, and that assurance stops attacks that your natural senses would have no defense against. Faith is not wishful thinking. It is confidence in what is real but not yet visible, and that confidence is what makes it a functional shield in spiritual battle.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan attacks your faith by assaulting what you hope for with discouraging circumstances and what you cannot see with what you can see. He uses the visible and the tangible to undermine the invisible and the promised. He knows that faith is your shield and his primary battle is always against your confidence in what God has said. If he can replace your confidence with doubt, your shield comes down.

The Biblical Example

Hebrews 11 opens with this definition of faith and then follows it immediately with a long list of people who lived by it. Abraham left his homeland for a place he had not seen. Noah built for a flood that had not come. Moses chose to identify with enslaved people rather than royalty because he saw something the world around him could not see. Each of them acted on the confidence of what God had said before there was any visible evidence. The writer was showing that this kind of faith was not passive. It moved people into action before the outcome was visible.

How to Use It

When the visible circumstances are speaking loudly against what God has promised, choose to stand on the substance of your faith rather than the evidence of your circumstances. Declare out loud what you are confident God has promised and what you are assured He will do, even when you cannot see it yet. Your faith shield is only effective when you are actively holding it up.

I raise my shield of faith today against every attack the enemy sends through doubt, discouragement, and visible circumstances that contradict God’s promises. I am confident in what I hope for. I am assured of what I do not yet see. My shield is raised and every flaming dart is extinguished.”
