I Am Forgiving
Colossians 3:13 — “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Forgiveness means choosing to release someone from the debt you feel they owe you.
God Says You Are Forgiving
You’re someone who forgives because God first forgave you. You’ve been on the receiving end of grace you didn’t earn, and that same grace now flows through you toward others. Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened to you was okay. It means you’re not going to let it keep owning you. Every time you choose to forgive, you’re walking in the same freedom God gave you. That’s powerful. That’s who you are.
How to Practice Being Forgiving
- Make the decision before the feeling comes. Forgiveness starts with a choice, not a feeling. Decide today that you’re going to release the person who hurt you, even if the emotions haven’t caught up yet. The feelings of peace will follow the decision.
- Pray for the person who hurt you. It’s hard to stay angry at someone you’re genuinely praying for. Start small. Ask God to bless them and work in their life. This isn’t for their sake as much as it’s for yours.
- Separate forgiveness from reconciliation. Forgiving someone doesn’t always mean you have to restore the relationship. You can release the debt and still maintain healthy boundaries. The two are not the same.
Prayer
Father, I want to walk in the same forgiveness You’ve shown me. Help me release the hurt I’ve been holding onto. Give me the grace to forgive fully, not because they deserve it, but because I don’t want to carry this anymore. Free me from bitterness and fill me with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
