I Am God’s Friend
John 15:14 — “You are my friends if you do what I command.”
Being God’s friend means you have access to His heart, His plans, and His presence.
God Says You Are God’s Friend
God doesn’t just want your obedience. He wants your company. He called Abraham His friend. He spoke with Moses face to face. He walked with Enoch. He wants that kind of closeness with you too. Being God’s friend means you’re not just following rules from a distance. You’re having conversations, receiving wisdom, and being let in on what He’s doing. That’s an extraordinary invitation.
How to Practice Being God’s Friend
- Talk to Him throughout your day. Friendship is built through consistent, ordinary conversation. Don’t save your God-talk for morning devotionals or emergencies. Talk to Him while you drive, work, and rest.
- Listen as much as you speak. In any good friendship, both people talk and both people listen. Make space in your time with God to hear from Him, not just to present your requests.
- Do what He says. Jesus defined His friends as those who obey Him. Friendship with God deepens when your actions align with His guidance. Obedience isn’t duty when it’s rooted in love.
Prayer
God, I want to know You as a friend. Not just as Creator or Savior, but as someone I walk with daily. Help me to hear Your voice and respond to it. Let my relationship with You be the most real and central one in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
