I Am Righteous
Romans 4:5 — “But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.”
Righteousness means God has declared you right with Him through faith, not through your own merit.
God Says You Are Righteous
Righteousness isn’t something you achieve. It’s something you receive. God imputes, or credits, His righteousness to you the moment you place your faith in Jesus. That means when God looks at you, He doesn’t see your failures. He sees you clothed in the righteousness of Christ. You don’t have to earn a standing with God. You already have one. Walk in it.
How to Practice Being Righteous
- Walk in right standing, not earned standing. Stop trying to make up for your failures through extra religious activity. You already stand righteous before God through Jesus. Your obedience should flow from gratitude, not from trying to fix your status.
- Let your actions align with your position. Righteousness is both a declaration and a direction. Because you’ve been declared righteous, live in ways that reflect that identity. Let your behavior be shaped by who God says you are.
- Receive correction gracefully. Part of living righteously is staying teachable. When the Holy Spirit or a trusted person points out something that needs to change, receive it without shame. Correction is part of the process.
Prayer
Father, thank You for crediting me with righteousness I could never earn on my own. Help me to live from that reality, not toward it. Let my life increasingly reflect the nature of the One who made me righteous. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
