What It Means to Be Wise
Being wise means learning to see life from God’s perspective and make choices that reflect His truth. It means you do not have to be led by impulse, pressure, emotion, or popular opinion.
Wisdom is more than knowing information. It is the ability to apply truth in real situations with humility, timing, and discernment. A wise person listens, learns, receives correction, and chooses what leads to life.
Hebrew Meaning
chokmah / chakam (חָכְמָה / חָכָם): wisdom / wise; used to describe skillful living, understanding, and the ability to act rightly. It carries the idea that wisdom is practical, shaping decisions, relationships, work, words, and worship.
binah / tebunah (בִּינָה / תְּבוּנָה): understanding or discernment; used to describe insight that helps someone distinguish what is true, right, and wise. It points to depth of perception, not surface-level knowledge.
Greek Meaning
sophia / sophos (σοφία / σοφός): wisdom / wise; used to describe divine wisdom and the ability to live according to God’s truth. It is not cleverness for personal advantage, but God-shaped understanding for faithful living.

How to Practice Wisdom
Ask God Before You Decide. Wisdom grows when prayer becomes part of your decision-making, not just your emergency plan.
Slow Down Enough to Discern. Not every opportunity is wise, and not every feeling is direction. Give yourself time to think, pray, and seek counsel.
Learn From Correction. Wise people do not treat correction as rejection. They let truth shape them, even when it is uncomfortable.
Choose Your Influences Carefully. The people you listen to will affect how you live. Walk with those who help you become more faithful, not more foolish.
Apply What You Already Know. Sometimes you do not need more information; you need obedience to the wisdom God has already given.
Declare It
I ask God for wisdom before I decide, and I trust Him to give it generously to those who seek it.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for giving wisdom generously. Help me see life from Your perspective and make choices that honor You. Teach me to slow down, listen, receive correction, and apply truth with humility. Surround me with wise counsel and give me discernment in my relationships, decisions, and words. Let my life reflect wisdom that comes from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
