The Power of God Defeating Enemies Through His People

Joshua 10:25

“And Joshua said to them, Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and courageous. For thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.”

Authority

God has established a pattern through Scripture of defeating the enemy through His people who trust Him and act in courage. What He did to the enemies of Joshua, He will do to every enemy you face. You fight knowing that the LORD has already committed to doing to your enemies what He has always done to His people’s enemies.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan uses fear and discouragement to stop God’s people from advancing. He specializes in making the enemy look too big, too many, and too entrenched to defeat. He used that same strategy against Israel repeatedly, knowing that a fearful people is a people that does not advance and therefore never experiences the victory God prepared for them.

The Biblical Example

Joshua 10 records a battle in which the Israelites fought a coalition of five kings who had joined forces against them. God threw the enemy into confusion and then sent large hailstones that killed more of the enemy than the Israelites did with their swords. Afterward, Joshua gathered his commanders and told them to put their feet on the necks of the captured kings, declaring that this was what God would do to all their enemies. It was a visual declaration that their enemies were beneath their feet.

How to Use It

When fear and discouragement tell you the enemy is too strong and the battle is too hard, speak Joshua’s declaration out loud: Do not be afraid or dismayed. Be strong and courageous. Remind yourself and declare to the enemy that the LORD will do to your enemies exactly what He has always done to the enemies of His people. Then advance.

Declaration

“I will not be afraid or dismayed. I am strong and courageous because the LORD will do to all my enemies what He has always done to the enemies of His people. The pattern of God’s victory is established and I stand in that pattern. Every enemy that has come against my life is subject to the same defeat that every enemy of God’s people has faced. I advance in that confidence.”
