The Power to Trample the Enemy Underfoot

Psalm 91:13

“You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.”

Authority

God has given you the authority to trample every work of the enemy underfoot. Spiritual dominance over the enemy is your God-given inheritance. That means you are not meant to cower before what comes against you. You are meant to walk over it. The same lion and the same serpent that represent the enemy's most intimidating and deceptive forms are both placed under your feet by God's declaration.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan operates as both the roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8) and the Serpent (Revelation 12:9). As the lion, he uses intimidation and loud threats to stop you in your tracks. As the serpent, he uses silent, subtle deception to slowly poison your thinking and your faith. He switches between the two depending on what is most likely to stop you from moving forward.

The Biblical Example

Psalm 91 describes a person who has made God their dwelling place and their refuge. As a result, God promises they will tread on the lion and the serpent. These were not symbolic enemies in that culture. Lions and serpents were real, lethal threats. God was saying that the person who stays close to Him moves through those threats from a position of authority rather than vulnerability. The promise was not that the threats disappear but that the person walks over them.

How to Use It

When you sense the enemy's intimidation rising, do not freeze and do not run. Take a deliberate step forward in prayer, in obedience, or in declaration. Speak to the attack by name in the name of Jesus and declare that it is under your feet. Every time you press forward in faith when the enemy is trying to stop you, you are literally treading on him.

Declaration

“I tread on the lion and the serpent. I trample every work of the enemy underfoot in the name of Jesus. Fear does not stop me. Intimidation does not freeze me. Deception does not hold me. God declared that the lion and the serpent are under my feet and I walk in that truth today. Satan, you are beneath me. I am moving forward.”
