I Am Raised Up with Christ (Ephesians 2:6)

What It Means to Be Raised Up with Christ
Ephesians 2:4-6 is one of the most dramatic identity passages in Scripture. Paul describes what God did: He made us alive, He raised us up, and He seated us. Three decisive, completed acts. The tense matters: these are not future promises. They are present realities. You are already raised. You are already seated. You already occupy a position in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, and that position is not based on your spiritual maturity or your daily performance. It is based entirely on your union with Christ.
Being raised up with Christ means your life is no longer lived only at ground level. You are operating from a heavenly position, with heavenly authority, in earthly circumstances. The challenges you face are real, but you face them from above, not from below. This is why Paul can say in Philippians 4:7 that the peace of God surpasses understanding. A person seated in the heavenlies has access to a perspective and a power that the circumstances around them cannot produce or explain.
Hebrew Meaning
rum (רוּם): to rise, to be exalted, to be lifted up; used throughout the Old Testament to describe God lifting up the humble, exalting the lowly, and raising up His servants for His purposes. Psalm 27:6 speaks of being lifted up above one’s enemies. The idea of being raised to a higher position by God is not pride. It is the result of God’s grace, a positioning that comes entirely from His initiative and not from the one being lifted.
Greek Meaning
synegeirō (συνεγείρω): to raise together with, to co-resurrect; used in Ephesians 2:6 with the prefix syn meaning together with or alongside. Paul uses this compound form to emphasize that the believer’s raising is not separate from Christ’s resurrection but simultaneous with it. When Christ rose, you rose. When He was seated at the right hand of the Father, you were co-seated in Him. Your position is not earned or achieved. It is inherited through union with the risen Christ.

How to Practice Being Raised Up with Christ
Set Your Mind on Things Above, Not Just on Things Ahead. Colossians 3:1-2 immediately applies the truth of being raised to the mind. Where you set your attention determines what perspective you live from. Deliberately bring your thinking to your heavenly position before addressing your earthly problems.
Pray From Your Position, Not Just Toward It. Many believers pray as though they are far from God, begging for access. But you are already seated with Christ in the heavenlies. Pray from that position of closeness and access rather than from a distance.
Refuse to Be Defined by Earthly Circumstances Alone. Your earthly situation is real, but it is not the whole story. You have a position above your circumstances that gives you a perspective no difficulty can fully take away. Remind yourself of that position when pressure tries to make you feel trapped or powerless.
Live With the Authority of Someone in an Elevated Position. Being seated with Christ in the heavenlies means you carry His authority. This is not arrogance. It is stewardship. Use the influence, access, and authority God has given you to serve others and advance His kingdom.
Let the Resurrection Shape Your Response to Death and Defeat. Because you are raised with Christ, death and defeat are never the final word over your life. In every season that feels like a dead end, remind yourself: I have been raised with the One who conquered death. Endings are not endings in Christ.
Declare It
God has raised me up with Christ and seated me with Him in the heavenly realms, and I live from that position.

Lord, thank You for raising me up with Christ and seating me in the heavenly realms. Help me to live from that position rather than being governed only by what I can see at ground level. Set my mind on things above. Let the perspective and the authority that come with my position in Christ shape how I pray, how I respond to difficulty, and how I engage the people around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
