The Power to Extinguish Every Attack

Ephesians 6:16

“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.”

You have been given the shield of faith, which has the power to stop and put out every single attack the enemy fires at you, in every circumstance, without exception. Faith is not just a feeling. It is an active defense that you pick up and use. When you choose to believe what God says over what you feel or see, you raise your shield and the attack cannot get through.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan is called the evil one (1 John 5:19), and his flaming darts are his targeted attacks against your mind, your emotions, your relationships, and your faith. These darts are designed to wound, distract, and discourage you. He fires them constantly, looking for any gap in your protection. He is counting on you to either not know you have a shield or to leave it down.

The Biblical Example

Paul described the shield of faith as something a soldier picks up and holds up in battle. In Roman warfare, soldiers soaked their large shields in water so that flaming arrows would be extinguished on contact. Paul used this image to explain what faith does to the enemy’s attacks. Every attack the enemy launches is designed to ignite something in you, whether it is fear, doubt, or despair. Faith held up stops it before it lands.

How to Use It

Raise your shield by actively choosing to believe what God says over what you feel or see. Each time an attack comes through fear, doubt, offense, or temptation, counter it immediately with a declaration of faith. Do not let the dart sit. Put it out the moment it lands by speaking what you believe about God and what God says about you.

“I take up the shield of faith in every circumstance. Every flaming dart the enemy has fired at my mind, my emotions, my family, and my future is extinguished by my faith in God. I choose to believe God's Word over every attack. My faith is active, my shield is raised, and the evil one has no weapon that can get through what God has placed in my hands.”
