The Power of Jesus’ Keys Over Death and Hell

Revelation 1:18

“And the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.”

Authority

Jesus holds the keys to death and Hades. Every realm the enemy uses to threaten you with fear is under the authority of the One who conquered death and rose again. No temptation leads to a place outside of His authority. No threat the enemy makes can deliver a consequence that Jesus has not already conquered. You overcome temptation from the position of someone standing with the One who holds every key.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan uses the fear of death, loss, and eternal destruction as some of his most powerful weapons. He wants the thought of death to paralyze your faith and control your decisions. He points to death as his domain, hoping you will not realize that Jesus took the keys from him and now controls every door the enemy once used to threaten.

The Biblical Example

John records in Revelation 1:18 that the risen Jesus appeared to him and declared that He was alive forever and that He held the keys of death and Hades. Keys represent authority and access. Before the resurrection, death and the grave operated as forces that had the final word. Jesus took those keys. He now holds the authority over both, meaning death no longer has independent power. What it opens and closes is now under His control.

How to Use It

When fear of death, loss, or destruction rises as a temptation to compromise your faith, declare out loud that Jesus holds the keys. The doors the enemy is threatening to open are not in his control. They are in the hands of the risen Jesus. Pray by declaring the authority of the resurrected Jesus over every fear of loss or death in your life.

Declaration

“Jesus is alive forevermore and He holds the keys of death and Hades. Every door the enemy has used to threaten me with fear is under the authority of my risen Lord. I do not fear death. I do not fear loss. I do not fear what the enemy claims to control because the One who conquered death holds every key. Jesus is alive and I am free from every threat the enemy makes through fear.”
