The Power to Live Free From the Fear of Death

Hebrews 2:14

“Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil.”

Authority

Because Jesus destroyed the devil’s power over death at the cross, you are no longer under the jurisdiction of death-fear. The enemy’s greatest tool of control, which is fear of dying, losing, or being destroyed, has been legally stripped of its power over you. God’s faithfulness to you runs through the cross and into every battle you face.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan held the power of death as his greatest weapon, using the fear of it to keep people in lifelong bondage. He uses the threat of death, loss, and destruction to control decisions, paralyze faith, and keep people from fully surrendering to God. Jesus entered into death specifically to destroy the one who wielded it as a weapon.

The Biblical Example

The writer of Hebrews explains in chapter 2 that Jesus took on flesh and blood specifically so that through His death He could destroy the one who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who had been held in slavery by the fear of death all their lives. The fear of death had been a mechanism of control. Jesus did not just offer comfort about death. He removed the one who held its power, breaking the grip that fear had used to keep people bound.

How to Use It

When fear of death, loss, or destruction rises in your life, declare out loud that Jesus destroyed the power of the devil over death. That power no longer controls you. Pray by declaring the faithfulness of God through the cross, knowing that He did not spare His own Son to ensure your freedom from this fear.

“Jesus took on flesh and blood and walked through death so that death would have no power over me. I am free from the fear of death, loss, and destruction. That fear has no authority over my decisions, my faith, or my future. I declare that the power of death has been destroyed, and I walk in the freedom that the cross purchased for me. I will not be controlled by what Jesus has already conquered.”
