The Power of Victory Over Sin and Death

1 Corinthians 15:57

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Authority

God has given you complete victory over sin and death through Jesus. The victory is a gift that has already been given, not a result you are still working toward.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan convinces believers that victory is something they must earn through consistent enough performance, long enough faithfulness, or deep enough spiritual maturity. He keeps the victory feeling just out of reach so that you are always striving rather than receiving. He uses your failures as evidence that the victory is not really yours.

The Biblical Example

Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 15 to a church dealing with doubt about the resurrection. He closed the chapter with a declaration: God gives the victory through Jesus. The Greek word for gives is in the present tense, meaning this is a continuous act, not a one-time past event. God was not described as someone who gave the victory and stepped back. He was described as someone who actively gives it. The victory was not earned by the Corinthians. It was given to them.

How to Use It

Stop striving for a victory that has already been given and start receiving it. Declare out loud that God gives you the victory through Jesus. Thank God for the victory before you see it fully manifested. Praise is the posture of someone who has received a gift, not someone who is still earning one.

Declaration

“Thanks be to God who gives me the victory through my Lord Jesus. This victory is a gift and I receive it right now. I do not earn it. I do not achieve it through my performance. I receive it through Jesus. Satan, the victory over sin and death that Jesus purchased is mine and I walk in it today. You do not get to define how much of that victory I receive. God gives it and I receive all of it.”
