The Power to Drive Out Impure Spirits

Matthew 10:1

“He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.”

Authority

Jesus gave His disciples the authority to drive out impure spirits, and that same delegation of authority extends to every believer who follows Him. This authority was given, not earned, and it belongs to you as part of your commission.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan deploys impure spirits into the lives of people to create patterns of uncleanness, addiction, perversion, and spiritual contamination. These spirits do not leave on their own. They must be driven out by someone exercising the authority they have been given. He counts on believers not using that authority.

The Biblical Example

Jesus called twelve ordinary people together and gave them authority over impure spirits before sending them out. He did not give them a theology lecture about demons. He gave them authority and sent them. They returned and reported that it worked. The authority was real, it transferred from Jesus to them, and it operated through their use of it. This same pattern of delegation continued throughout the book of Acts as the early believers exercised this authority in various cities.

How to Use It

When you encounter impure spirits in your life or in ministry to others, do not work around them or simply pray for God to handle it. Use the authority you have been given. Speak directly to the impure spirit and drive it out in the name of Jesus. Then pray for God’s purity and presence to fill what was vacated.

Declaration

“Jesus has given me authority over impure spirits and I exercise that authority now. Every impure spirit operating in my life or in the lives of those I am interceding for must go in the name of Jesus. I do not tolerate spiritual contamination. I have been given authority and I use it. Leave now in the name of Jesus.”
