The Power to Fight a Defeated Foe

Luke 10:18

“And he said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

Authority

Satan has already fallen from his position of authority. He is a defeated, descending enemy and every battle you fight is against a foe who is falling, not rising. You do not engage a rising threat. You enforce the defeat of a falling one.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan works hard to project an image of ascending power and growing dominance. He wants you to see him as gaining ground, increasing in influence, and becoming more dangerous. The reality declared by Jesus is the opposite. He saw Satan fall like lightning. The trajectory is downward. The enemy wants you looking at the wrong direction.

The Biblical Example

Jesus spoke Luke 10:18 in response to His disciples returning and reporting that demons submitted to them in His name. He told them He saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. He was describing a reality about the enemy’s position: Satan had already been cast down from his place of authority. The disciples were not fighting an enemy who was winning. They were enforcing the defeat of one who had already fallen. Their authority was operating against a foe whose end had already been determined.

How to Use It

When the enemy’s influence in the world or in your circumstances seems to be growing, remind yourself and speak out loud the words of Jesus: Satan fell like lightning from heaven. He is falling. His apparent strength in any situation is the final display of a being in descent. Engage every battle with the confidence of someone fighting a foe who has already lost their footing.

Declaration

“Jesus saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven and that fall has never stopped. I fight a falling enemy, not a rising one. Every display of power the devil projects is the display of a being in descent. I declare the words of Jesus over every battle I face: Satan is fallen and I engage this fight from the side of the One who witnessed that fall and conquered it.”
