The Power to Cast Out Demons

Mark 16:17

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues.”

Authority

Jesus said that those who believe in Him have the authority to cast out demons in His name. This is not reserved for a select few. It is a sign that follows believers. The name of Jesus carries authority over every demonic spirit, and you have been given permission to use that name. When a demonic presence is at work in a situation, you have the authority to address it directly and command it to leave.

The Enemy’s Strategy

Satan operates through demonic spirits that are assigned to bring destruction into people’s lives through fear, addiction, oppression, confusion, and deception. His strategy is to keep you unaware of his activity or convince you that you have no power to do anything about it. He wants believers to either not recognize his work or to feel powerless to confront it.

The Biblical Example

After His resurrection, Jesus gave instructions to His followers before ascending. Among the signs He said would follow those who believe was this: they would cast out demons in His name. The book of Acts shows this playing out repeatedly, as the apostles and others commanded demons to leave people and they did. The authority was not exclusive to the apostles. Jesus connected it to belief, not to a special office or title.

How to Use It

When you discern demonic activity at work in a situation, a person, or a place, do not ignore it and do not be afraid of it. Use the name of Jesus. Speak directly and with authority. The authority is in the name, not in the volume of your voice or the intensity of your emotion. Be clear, be direct, and be confident that the name of Jesus carries all the weight you need.

Declaration

“I am a believer and these signs follow me. I cast out every demonic spirit that has been operating in my life, my mind, my home, and my relationships. In the name of Jesus, you must go. I do not ask. I command. The authority of Jesus backs every word I speak and every demon must obey.”
