I Am Encouraging
Ephesians 4:29 — “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.”
Being encouraging means using your words and presence to lift others toward who they’re meant to be.
God Says You Are Encouraging
You have the power to change someone’s entire day with a few well-placed words. Encouragement isn’t just a nice thing to do. It’s a Kingdom assignment. When you speak life into people, you’re doing what God does. He’s the one who called things into existence with His words. Every time you choose to build someone up instead of tear them down, you’re partnering with Him in one of the most important ways possible.
How to Practice Being Encouraging
- Speak it when you think it. When you notice something admirable in someone, say it. Don’t assume they already know. Encouragement deferred is encouragement wasted.
- Be specific. Instead of “You did a good job,” try “The way you handled that situation showed real wisdom.” Specific words land differently than general ones.
- Encourage people who don’t expect it. Find someone who’s often overlooked and intentionally invest your words in them. Your encouragement might be exactly what they needed to keep going.
Prayer
Lord, let my words be life-giving today. Help me to encourage the people around me in ways that reflect Your heart for them. Give me eyes to see what’s right in people, and give me the courage to say it out loud. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
